Wambui is married with three children and also takes care of three other children from a relative. She has been crafting since 1992, and has sold to various merchants over the years. Wambiu also sells in different Masaai markets, and this has been her main occupation for the last 18yrs. She does not have another job.
Wambui mainly designs and crafts assorted banana fibre items. She makes murals, different kinds of animals, angels and Santas (for the Christmas decorations), jewellery boxes, baobab trees, tablemats and nativity sets. She also makes stuffed dolls made with local fabric. She is very passionate about her work, and is constantly thinking of new designs to make so as to expand her merchandise. She works with casual labourers to help her out when she has a lot of work.
Wambui started working and selling her products through Bawa La Tumaini (BLT) in 2008, and she appreciates very much the bulk orders she gets from BLT and the exposure.
Her future plans are to continue to come up with new designs, so that her work may grow bigger and better, so that her range of products can effectively compete in the global market.
Its her prayer that more customers will continue buying her products through BLT so that she can continue educating her children and providing the basic needs for them.
Wambui knows that as long as she continues providing good quality products and unique designs, she will be in business for a long time. She is hopeful that BLT will continue to teach her about what it takes to compete in the Global Market.
